A preliminary report from Apple and the University of Michigan is ready for World Hearing Day. The research uses data collected from Apple devices (e.g., iPhone, iPad, and watch) to study how daily sound exposure can impact hearing over time. Some early nuggets:

  • 50% of participants had exposure to a “loud workplace.”
  • 50% had not received a professional hearing exam in at least a decade.
  • 10% of the subjects had a professional diagnosis of hearing loss, but 75% of that number did not use any assistive hearing technology.
