We’ve been strong proponents of window masks to remove obstacles to communication. Window masks are a boon for lip readers and can help with American Sigh Langauge communications because facial expressions are so important in ASL. Normal face masks can protect against spreading COVID-19 but are an obstacle to communication. But window masks aren’t certified for medical procedures.

A Swiss company has created a transparent polymer fabric that can be used in fully transparent surgical masks that filter out germs. Masks, certified for surgical use, are expected to be widely available in 2021. You can read additional information [here].
