President Biden signed a wide-ranging executive order on Friday, July 9, aimed at promoting competition across wide swaths of American business see NPR’s report here and Fox News’ report here. The order includes 72 initiatives at more than a dozen federal agencies to promptly tackle some of the most pressing competition problems across the US economy. Included in the executive order is an effort by the Biden Administration to save Americans with hearing loss thousands of dollars by allowing hearing aids to be sold over the counter at drug stores.
The Administration’s action may raise concerns from some consumer advocates. In May, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost alerted consumers here to beware of some misleading tactics by over-the-counter hearing aid companies that make false claims of performance and that they have the government’s approval.
