Our goal is to promote communication accessibility, equality and cultural awareness to deaf, hard of hearing and hearing communities. Advocacy is an important part of achieving this goal, and we address both personal and systemic advocacy within our organization’s pursuits and community efforts.
Personal Advocacy
Our team provides outreach and direct assistance in a variety of areas, including:
- ASL/English literacy
- Daily living skills
- Deaf culture
- Information on laws, regulations and pending legislation that may impact the Deaf and hard of hearing*
- Problem solving
- Self-advocacy
- Technology
*We do not provide legal services
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) is the legislation most often referred to in supporting the provision of communication access. Check out our Know Your Rights page for additional resources.
Systemic Advocacy
We are dedicated to systemic advocacy – advocacy that targets changes in systems, services, and legislation to improve access to services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. If you would like to learn more about how our organization is involved in systemic advocacy, please contact us.
